This site serves as a storefront for a business based on passion. Although a new site it already has a rich history and it really begins with a website named Metastones.com. Way back in 2001 two crystal and mineral enthusiasts decided that there was a need to supply quality African minerals and crystals to the international market at affordable prices. Armed with good intentions and no technical knowledge Brian and Penny embarked on what became an amazing journey through both Africa and the internet. Like all good journeys there are defining chapters the story culminated in 2010 when for numerous reasons it was decided that Metastones.com should be put on hold for a time.
A year later and armed with new ideas, new inspirations and some truly amazing new stock were back and even better. Same amazing stones, same dedicated customer service and of course the whole host of goofy animals.
I suppose this only leaves one important question, why a new site why namibiaminerals.com? A simple answer we felt it was time to diversify and really show case some of the amazing minerals in our collection. Metastones will back with more stock and better than ever, we just thought a new start with a fresh site would be great.
Sourcing stones in Africa.
The amazing part of this business is being able to travel in Africa, it is one of those expierences that I wish everyone could have. It poses its own unique challenges for us mineral traders and we will be adding a blog soon to share them. However some points are too important not to list.
- We support Ethical mining, which means in many instances your stone has been hand mined by a subsistance business man using a low impact method. In other cases the stones may be bi-product of large scale mining however we buy from the man on the ground. Often buying what the mines see as useless to large corporate markets from the men with the access to scavange or purchase from the mine tips. So these stones help support families and small business and do not encourage enviromental damage.
- We pay a fair price, we do not believe in exploiting people and although our stones are still good value we paid the original owner fairly. With this is in mind we can be proud of the minerals displayed on this site.We will have a blog running soon where we can share the wonder, beauty and often hilarity of Africa with all our friends.
